How To Create Your Dream Space With The Best Bathroom Materials

The bathroom is one of the most important rooms in the house. It’s where you take your morning shower, clean up after dinner and get ready for bed.

With that in mind, bathroom materials should be selected carefully to provide comfort, durability, and functionality.

Since many homeowners don’t know what bathroom materials are best when renovating your bathroom, we’re planning to give you some insights and help you make an informed decision on your next investment!

Let’s begin.

Some Of The Best Bathroom Materials To Use

There are many different types of bathroom materials to choose from, but some are better than others. Here are the best types of bathroom materials to use:

Porcelain Tile

Porcelain tile is a great choice for bathroom floors because it’s durable and resists water and mold. It also comes in various colors and styles, so you can find one that matches your bathroom’s décor.

You can use large tiles to add texture, even if you have a small bathroom remodeling project – and create a beautiful design that can uplift your entire space.

Italian porcelain tile is our personal favorite here at Pellak Construction, but we can find a similar alternative if it’s out of your budget.

Ceramic Tile

Ceramic tiles are available in a variety of colors, sizes, and shapes, so you can find one that matches your bathroom’s décor and personal taste. It’s a popular material because it’s easy to clean and resists mold and mildew in wet areas.

Ceramics is a bit more affordable than porcelain, but it’s also less resistant. For a bathroom, though, ceramic will also be a great choice.

Solid Vinyl Wall Covering

This is a great choice for bathroom remodels because it’s water-resistant and durable. It’s also easy to clean and won’t show dirt or grime. The solid vinyl wall covering is available in various colors and styles, so you can find the perfect option for your bathroom.

Another great thing you can do with a vinyl wall covering is to apply beautiful wallpaper to it. This way, you’re creating a personalized and unique space.

Natural Stone

Stone is a natural material used in bathroom remodels for centuries. It’s a popular choice because it’s durable and easy to clean. It can be used on floors, walls, and countertops.

It comes in a variety of colors and textures, so you can find the perfect one for your bathroom. Best natural stones out there are quartz, granite, and marble.

Glass Shower Doors

Glass shower doors are popular for bathrooms because they look elegant and modern. They’re also easy to clean and maintain.

As a downside, glass shower doors must be constantly cared for. They’re also quite pricey, but at least you won’t have to replace them every once in a while, as you need with shower curtains.

Solid Surface Countertops

Solid surface countertops are a good choice for bathroom vanities because they’re durable and resist water and moisture. They come in various colors and styles, so you can find one that matches your bathroom’s décor.

One of our favorite tops here at Pellak Construction is quartz. Quartz tops are highly efficient, durable, and beautiful. They’re a bit pricier than a granite slab, but the value they bring makes them well worth it!

Bathroom Materials You Should Avoid

Now that you know what materials are best for the bathroom, it’s time to learn about the worst types of bathroom materials to avoid.

Bathroom plans

Vinyl Flooring

Vinyl flooring is not a great option for bathrooms since it tends to accumulate water and mold quickly, not to mention its lack of aesthetic appeal. Vinyl can work sometimes, but the luxury vinyl plank flooring is a much worse option for baths, as it doesn’t hold well against water.

Carpeting

Carpeting is a definite no-no for bathrooms as it tends to absorb moisture, promoting mold growth and mildew. Moreover, its appearance falls short compared to other more suitable options.

Wood Cabinets

Wood cabinets are the norm, but they are often the first victims of mold and mildew. Besides, water leaks and large spills will do a lot of harm to it. MDF cabinet faces with plywood boxes are probably the best option for your bathroom vanity.

But if you want to stick with wood, we recommend hardwood vanities. These will be more expensive, but hardwood is more resistant to water damage and mold.

Masonry

Masonry is an ill-advised choice for both bathroom walls and floors since it absorbs moisture, creating a prime environment for mold. Additionally, its aesthetic does not coordinate well with the majority of bathrooms.

Concrete

Concrete may not be the ideal material for your bathroom due to its hardness and lack of warmth; it is most commonly used in other rooms in a home. Concrete flooring or countertops can give your bathroom an austere appearance, plus it stains quickly and deteriorates rapidly compared to alternative materials. If you still want to use concrete for your countertops of floors, we recommend a good finish that’ll make it less porous.

Marble, Granite, Quartz Explained

Marble

Marble is crafted from limestone subjected to intense heat and pressure, rendering it a remarkable selection for bathrooms due to its dazzling, sophisticated aesthetic. Marble also happens to be significantly durable and resistant to moisture damage; however, scratches and stains may appear if not appropriately maintained with regular cleaning and sealing. Keep in mind that marble is a softer stone, much softer than granite.

Granite

Granite, a spectacular and robust type of stone formed when quartz, feldspar, and mica are exposed to extreme pressure and heat, is ideal for bathroom countertops and vanities. It is beautiful enough to mesmerize anyone in its presence and strong enough to resist water damage. Yet, despite this durability, granite is vulnerable to scratches as well as stains – doing cleaning and sealing is essential on occasion.

Quartz top

Quartz

Quartz is a gorgeous and sophisticated stone composed of ground quartz crystal, often used in bathrooms for countertops or vanities. Its strength makes it both waterproof and moisture-resistant. It’s also highly resistant to scratches and stains, but what makes this material great, especially for countertops, is its sleek look with no veins.

Each material has its own pros and cons, so it’s essential to choose the one that best suits your needs.
